José Luis Fariñas (La Habana, 1972), Cuban-Spaniard painter, draftsman, poet and narrator, member of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) and of the International Writers and Artists Association (IWA), was honored with the ministerial Distinction for Cuban National Culture and awarded with the National Prize of Illustration Raúl Martínez in two editions, the Illustration's NOMA Medal of UNESCO and the First Prize XXX Aniversario de la Gaceta de Cuba, UNEAC. Some of his works are conserved in Denver Mizel Museum; Las Américas Museum of Contemporary Art, Colorado, and in Museum of the Jewish Centre of Pittsburgh. He has had 50 personal exhibits and 153 collective expositions in Havana, Buenos Aires, Ciudad de México, Pamplona, Madrid, New York, Miami, Pittsburgh, Denver, West Palm Beach, Köhln, Paris, Brussels, Tel Aviv and Tokyo. Illustrator of several Cuban editorial labels. Two of his illustrated art's books for bibliophiles created by the featured publishing house Liber Ediciones, Pamplona, were awarded with the First Prize of the annual Spaniard National Edition Prize of High Bibliophily. His works figure at private collections around the world and at the institutional patrimony of The Cuban Book Institute, the Rachel Jewish Hotel, the Inglaterra Hotel and of the Cathedral of Havana, among others. He has created the central image of the Alicia Alonso's homage ballet for the Lezama Lima's Centennial and too many other images for cinema, TV and theatre. Author of the books El resto más blanco, Ediciones Unión, El alma y la Piedra, Editorial Letras Cubanas, and Regresiones inestables, Ediciones Unión, his poetry and narrative figure, among others, in the anthologies Post-novísimos narradores cubanos, Salvador Redonet, University of Zaragoza; Heridos por la luz, J. Souza, University of Guadalajara, and Jewish Latin American Literature, Stephen Sadow, LAWI, New York. He received the literary awards Cuba Fiction 2003, Prometheus of Poetry 2001. Graduated by San Alejandro Plastic Arts Academy with Gold Distinction, he continued studies at the Cuban University of Arts and coursed piano studies in his early years at the Manuel Saumell School of Music. Some of his texts was translated to the English, Italian, French and Dutch. He has been jury in national and international awards of art and of literature. As painter and writer, his work was studied by specialized critics in articles and essays.
